Space Symphony Motion Gym

Space Symphony Motion Gym from Lamaze

“Well made, well thought out, brightly coloured and very popular with the little ones”

First impressions: Well… it was always going to
be popular in my eyes, it’s mostly purple… my
favourite colour! It’s also quite funky looking and
not as insipid as some of the other play mats we
had seen. We were given this as a gift for our baby
before she was even born, and so the influx of
colourful, noisy, battery-eating toys began!

The playmat has a collection of hanging, squeaking,
cracking space-related squishy toys and a mirror
(very, very popular when she was new… in fact we
used to take it off and put it down the side of her crib too, she’d stare herself to sleep! 🙂 ).

What’s good about it: The mat also has a central piece which is the most genius part of all. It’s a purple disc, with two velcro straps. One strap attaches to each of the arms going over the top of the mat, and when switched on, it plays music (two different tunes, one relaxing and one a bit more cheery) and makes the arms of the mat wave around.

The dangly toys wave around and baby is transfixed… that’s the idea! And it blinking well works too! Sadie loved watching the planets and aliens wave around over her head. And a friend from my antenatal class who has a baby who will not sleep during the day, tried putting her little person on it, put the chilled out music on, and Martha gradually drifted off to sleep. I suspect a quick trip to a toy shop was in order after that experiment :-)!

This is another example of a toy from Lamaze which is well made, well thought out, brightly coloured and very popular with the little ones.

Sadie used to lie on it and just chill out when she was ‘little little’ (all important for mummy to be able to leave the little person to go and pee/make a drink/make a sarnie etc), and now she’s five months she loves rolling from one dangly toy to the next. I think the mirror is still the favourite though!

The batteries in the central piece last well too… we have used it every day and have only replaced them once. It sounded hilarious when they started to go, as the music was on a bit of a go slow!

The downside… I realise it’s their branding, but the Lamaze labels on every single different piece on here gets a bit much. Also, the arms could be a bit longer/higher, as now she’s bigger I quite frequently find Sadie being beaten around the head (gently) by a small blue alien if the arms are moving.

To sum it up: A more interesting than normal play mat which has lasted the test of time and given me many chances to have lunch!

Mybabycanplay rating: 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
This should have a 4 and a half rating really but we can’t find out how to do half smileys lol.

Thanks to our reviewers Anna and Sadie Edwards.
